Generation mode matters most — retrieving licensed stock footage is inexpensive, generating one still per scene is moderate, and generating continuous video frame by frame is the expensive one. Length scales close to linearly, because more seconds means more scenes means more generation. Resolution affects both generation and encoding. Voice, music, and captions add a little, but they are small next to the visual work and are rarely worth optimising.
The practical consequence is that the same script can differ several-fold in cost depending on which generator you send it to. If the shot could plausibly have been filmed, the stock footage generator will usually look better and cost less than generated footage. Stock footage is next, then AI-generated stills, and fully generated AI video is the most expensive. If your content works as narration over imagery, the cheaper modes usually produce a cleaner result as well as a cheaper one.
Draft at a lower resolution and only render the final version at full quality. Use the cheapest generation mode the content genuinely allows. Test a 30-second version before committing to five minutes — most problems are visible early. And cut the script: length multiplies directly into cost, and most scripts are longer than they need to be.
